Federal Government Girls’ College Bwari, Abuja came into being on 15th January 1984 to meet the demand for the girl child education in FCT, the middle belt and the country at large. It was the 41st Unity College to be established in the country and the second in the Federal Capital Territory after Kwali. It is a boarding school which took off with 43 students, 8 teaching and 10 non-teaching staff.
The College is situated in Bwari town, opposite F.C.D.A Staff Quarters along Law School road.
It has recorded 5 Principals since its inception, the first being Mrs Mrs A Abisogun-Alo. She was succeeded in May 1985 by Miss A.E. Uwanaka who was in turn succeeded by Hajiya H.I.E Mijah in January 1997. Next came Hajiya J.F Gold on 7th July 2003. Next came Mrs M.O. Okwulehie who came on board in September 2008 till 2012. The mantle of leadership rests in the hands of Mrs A. Bamaiyi who came on board in September 2012.
Presently, the college has a student population of about 2,200 students manned by about 168 teaching and 115 non-teaching staff. The college celebrated its silver jubilee on 15th February, 2009. The college recently held its 26th Inter-House Sports/Athletic Competition where Emerald House emerged overall best house.
The teachers and students of Federal Government Girls’ College, Bwari are sports loving people who even in early times devoted themselves on sporting activities.
Our students are actively involved in games and activity throughout the session. It could take place either internally or externally i.e. between the school and other schools. Our annual inter-house competition is usually held during the second term of the academic session. We are involved in the following sporting activities.
