As part of our mission which is to provide cutting-edge educational technology solutions, digital learning experience and content that supports teachers, students and individuals’ learning and development, we put together a 1-day Digital Literacy workshop (Smart Teachers boot-camp) which held at our head office on the 13th June, 2019.
The workshop was aimed to cover a range of thematic issues in Digital Literacy and ICT application to teaching learning situations.
Key issues discussed during the workshop covered 6 topics which were taken by members of Skool media and EduFirst team and they are
Education 4.0: the future of learning
The session which was facilitated by Idris Oladipo (Digital Innovation and Country Manager, EduFirst Nig. Ltd), covered the importance of adopting digital innovations in the education sector.
He took the teachers through steps guiding education professionals and what it will take to acquire education 4.0 standard.
He encouraged the teachers to aspire to improve themselves and impact the next generation to help them be prepared for the digital world out there.
Critical thinking and problem solving.
This was another interesting session. Facilitated by Olajumoke Adegeye (Project Supervisor, Skool media Nig Ltd), She took the participants on how to apply critical thinking and problem solving.
Giving them a practical breakdown of the processes involved in both, the benefits it has in teaching and its usefulness in developing the minds of the students if adopted by teachers during class.
To drive home her session, a group activity was carried out at the end of her session where teachers were placed in 2 groups and each group was to seek out problems they are facing among their students and the other group proffers solutions to that problem and vice versa.
Blended learning and multimedia resources for your classroom
This session was again taken by Idris Oladipo (Digital Innovation and Country Manager, EduFirst Nig. Ltd), where he explained the importance of blended learning and the use of multimedia resources in the classroom to make learning more fun and interactive.
He gave a detailed explanation about AR (augmented reality) and VR (virtual reality) and its use in education, the difference between both of them and their importance in the modern day education sector.
ICT and you
This session was facilitated by Hilary Ikuni, Project Support Officer, Skool Media Nig. Ltd.) in which he explained the definition of ICT (information communication technology), its importance and impact in education sector, the different technological tools that can be used in teaching e.g. smart tables, smart boards, projectors, laptops, tablets etc.
He also described collaborative online tools that can be used by teachers in working on a group work by using google suite which comprises of google docs, sheets and slides.
A practical example was done for the teachers where a document was shared with one of them and she edited it and the effect was seen by all.
Information literacy and online safety
This topic was also facilitated by Hilary Ikuni, Project Support Officer, Skool Media Nig. Ltd. He gave a simple definition of a browser, a website, a webpage, a web address.
He further explained what information you are advised to share online for one’s safety and how to surf the net to acquire information.
The new classroom with Edupad
This session was facilitated by Jadesola Ogundiminegha, Project Coordinator, Skool Media Nig. Ltd, where she gave a summary of all the topics covered and how useful it will be for teachers to adopt the modern day ways of teaching.

She took time out to describe and show the teachers the new products Edupad laptops and described its features and how Edufirst is in the forefront of changing the Nigerian Education space to meet Modern 21st century ways of learning.
After the training, a mini quiz competition was designed to test the knowledge of the participants overall on what they have learnt so far and it turned out to be fun in the end.
The participants asked questions during and after the training. At the end of the training, one of the participants, The Proprietor of Ikija Day School, Mrs. Omobola Olaribigbe gave a vote of thanks and certificates of participation was issued to all invitees.
The participants were later treated to sumptuous lunch at the office staff kitchen to bring the boot-camp to an end.
