WHAT IS EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE (E.I) AND HOW DOES IT AFFECT US?
Emotional intelligence (E.I.) or EQ:
It is about learning and knowing how we feel and the feelings of others towards us.
For example; Ade is angry because he’s hungry.
May is cranky and crying because she is pressed.
You can then understand why people do certain things
EQ or EI makes us understand and process information and come to sound decisions.
We can easily understand and process ours and people’s emotions and come to sound decisions.

The capacity to be aware of, control, and express one’s emotions, and to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically.
“emotional intelligence is the key to both personal and professional success”

CLASS ACTIVITY

EMOTIONAL QUOTIENT (EQ) AND SELF-REGULATION
Reuben bar-on (2003) coined the term EQ for ‘emotional quotient hence the acronym of EQ for emotional intelligence as opposed to EI.
At the heart of EQ is the awareness of one’s own behavior in order to self-regulate and to understand other people’s behaviour.

4 ATTRIBUTES OF EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE
Emotional intelligence consists of four attributes according to Daniel Goleman:
- Self-awareness – You can identify your own emotions ( how you feel) and how they affect your thought and behavior. You know your strengths and weaknesses and have self confidence
- Self-management – You’re able to control impulsive feelings and behaviour, manage your emotions in healthy ways, take initiative, follow through on commitments, and adapt to changing circumstances.
- Social awareness – You can understand the emotions, needs, and concerns of other people, pick up on emotional cues, feel comfortable socially, and recognize the power dynamics in a group or organization.
- Relationship management – You know how to develop and maintain good relationships, communicate clearly, inspire and influence others, work well in a team, and manage conflict.

2. SELF AFFIRMATION (Telling YOU about YOU!):
Self Affirmation answers the following questions about you.
How do you see yourself ?
What do you make of your self ?
How should you be seen by others?
How do you think people see you ?
What should you say to yourself ?
What should you believe about your self ?
OUR DEEPEST FEAR – BY Marianne Williamson
OUR DEEPEST FEAR CREED
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a MADE SPECIAL.
Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
